Our Dream Team

Zach Dykes, Director of Bands

I obtained a Bachelor of Science in Music Education from Troy University in Troy, Alabama. During my college career at Troy University I served as member of the university’s CMENC chapter, a member of the Bones of Troy-Trombone Ensemble, and a member of the Sound of the South Marching Band. I have worked with both Milton and Pace’s bands as a music and marching technician and have had the opportunity to professionally train drum majors in the past few years.  I am looking forward to what we can accomplish each year together and making the Gulf Breeze Band into something that everyone will want to strive for.

Hailing from Pensacola, Florida, I have started my musical career at Escambia High School playing my native instrument (trumpet) and then was introduced to indoor percussion.  For 4 seasons, I have performed in the Diamonds Indoor Percussion Ensemble.  Outside of my accomplishments in high school, I have been taught by numerous professional educators.  In 2016, I've had the opportunity to perform with Atlanta Quest, a highly competitive independent world-class ensemble based out of Atlanta, Georgia that competes in the percussion division of Winter Guard International (WGI).  I have also performed on tour with the Oregon Crusaders, a prestigious drum and bugle corps based out of Portland, Oregon that travels coast to coast to compete in the Drum Corps International (DCI) World Championships.  My goal is to push the limits and exceed the highest expectations for the Gulf Breeze Percussion Ensemble and to assist the Sound Wave Band reach its highest potential possible.

Patrick Barnett, Head Percussion Instructor
I am pleased to say that I am part of the Gulf Breeze High School band staff  to aid our band members in having the best experience possible.  The Florida panhandle has always been where I call home and I am excited to be able to teach in the area that I love so dearly.   I am a graduate from Tate High School where I spent time learning many of the teaching skills I use to this day.  Taking part in leadership roles and spear-heading new percussion ensembles were just a few of the things I enjoyed during my time there.  Since then I have helped with many programs around the area including Navarre High School and  Pace High School.  Having my degree in business from Pensacola State College has helped me integrate unique strategies into my music programs that  prove to be highly effective.  I look forward to meeting and working with each one of you and together help produce the best product we can!
